STRONG Run

Undeniably, strength training is an essential component of a runner’s training program. In addition to maintaining healthy muscles, tendons, and joints, peer-reviewed research has demonstrated strength training can enhance performance by improving running efficiency, maximal force and power generation, maximal sprint speed, and race time.

STRONG Run is intended to help runners take their performance to the next level. By integrating principles of strength training into your program, we aim to develop robust, resilient, and high performing runners. This service focuses on performance enhancement, and therefore is best suited for runners who have already achieved consistent and injury-free training.

Our evaluations begin by assessing your running goals and identifying areas of improvement through running specific functional testing. A customized training plan will be developed to complement and enhance your running.

Follow-up visits are available to continually progress and modify your program to ensure you’re maximizing your potential. Michael’s background in strength and conditioning, sports medicine rehabilitation, coaching, and as a high performing runner allow him to meet the needs of runners of all abilities.

Components of the STRONG Run program include:

  • Incorporating dynamic warm-up routines to optimally prepare the body for movement

  • Improving strength of the gluteal, hamstring, quadricep, and calf muscle groups to facilitate a more efficient running stride

  • Modifying traditional Olympic Lifts to maximize strength and power output and to meet the functional demands of running

  • Running-specific core strengthening and stability

  • Exercises to improve flexibility, mobility, and overall soft tissue health

  • Plyometrics and drills to enhance running motor coordination
